The attitude that all purple weapons are crap is a misconception. Sometimes they ar 19% instead of 20%, or maybe its a perfect mod on a non max weapon. Goody something to salvage.

The point is there are max blue weapons from crafters, collectors, or other npcs that are easily the equal stat wise to a gold item or a green item... And can get better mods put on them to upgrade them stat wise. Sure it does not make it a gold item but the stats are worth it alone.

Players have this conception that if it is not gold its trash. that is nothing but a lie. Indeed many of my golds just get turned into gold with an occassional salvage for the mod to put on a blue or purple weapon that has a better req, or that I got customized already on another hero or character...

Just saying, just cause its a purple does not mean its garbage. indeed all those whites I grab all the time from the ground does equal money in the back. a gold piece picked up is a gold piece earned. And even the worst of the purples is still going to give you in the area of 50 gold if not more with the NPCs. that adds up people. In an afternoon of playing I ave around 20 30 k from that kind of "CRAP". Its money in the bank so to speak. Everytime you just leave it on the ground you are basically throwing a few gold away to the wind never to be seen again.

It just adds up, is all I can say. Its worth the few moments per zone to trad in your stuff for gold and put that in your storage... before you know it you will be in the double digits per day of platinum. Sure its not the Bonaza of 100K+ecto and rubies that some of your think you deserve. Those types of things are RARE. and Rarer still is the player STUPID enough to waste the gold on such a thing when they can go get one for themselves. Thats an attitude I will NEVER understand. I caulk it up to lazy players that expect everything done for them for nothing with no effort on their part. Then again thats the kind of world we live in anymore isn't it? a nanny state of socalists that think the government must do everythign for them.

to paraphrase President Kennedy.

"Ask not, what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for for your country.
My fellow citizens of Tyria, ask not what Arenanet will do for you, but what together we can do for the betterment of the community."

If we could just get that attitude again to pertain to our real lives and countries... we would not be in the social disorder and collapse we are in today.

I totally agree with you =HT=Ingram but don't rally the troops too much. I depend on some of those people you speak of to buy some of my things. lol

Yea, I'm not saying some things should not have a high value for those extremely rare items... and not EVERY person is stupid that buys things, But when that's all they do. yea I think that's stupid. I mean I can accept things being 50k 10k 25k even 100k... its when it jumps to 100k+godknows how many ectos or rubies whatever... Then they are going over game trade caps willfully, and are being just absurdly greedy...

10 PvE Characters (same account), all taken thru NF, one at a time, and after completing the campaign, they all do the chest/treasure run, hitting all 12 in one go.
Their first time thru, if memory serves, all golds, they cleared about 20-25k cash.

Read up on the theories behind the chest/treasure resets and have waited precisely 100 days since the last character did their run, which was the mesmer.
And none of my chracters do "key-chest" runs, if anything, across the account, they maybe used 2 lockpicks, if that, over that 100 day period (encase any correlation between the "key-chests" and "free-chests/treasure"

Have just taken the memser thru the chest run (drops in order):
6 gold
1 sapphire
1 gold
4 purple
24k (with all items sold to merchant, nothing was worth keeping)

Now after reading this thread, the question was whether to take another character thru their chest run, or wait a week/month etc?
So, took thru the paragon, who hasn't tried his chest/treasure run in, well tbh, not sure, easily 150+days, at least over the 100 days, as I know the mesmer was the last character on the account to do the chest/treasure run.

So, took thru the paragon on his run (drops in order):
5 gold
1 ruby
1 purple
1 diamond
4 purple
24k (with all items sold to merchant, nothing was worth keeping)

No real difference at all,
For the mesmer, I started at Istan and the last chest/treasure was Realm of Torment.
The first (Issnur Isles - buried treasure) dropped 550g odd.

For the para, after reading this thread, started in Realm of Torment, and finished in Istan.
The last (Issnur Isles - buried treasure) dropped 239g.
So even though it dropped roughly half of what it had previously dropped, in the end with everything totalled up, still cleared the same amount of gold at the end. But you'd still start in Torment and work backwards, as you want your Torment level golds to be better quality than your Istan level golds.

Note: no quests/missions done between the mesmer~paragon run. Technically closed the client, read guru a bit, wrote half this post, then kicked up client and took the paragon straight thru their run. Both runs done in NM, with a h/h team, takes about 80mins odd.

So after those 2 runs, think will try and take the other 8 characters thru this weekend too... that is unless i notice a big difference in the loot/gold that i clear on the 3rd char, will update.

Update:
Again, no quests/missions been done between runs, NM with h/h.
Assassin took thru this time, from Torment to Istan (drops in order):
2 gold
2 purple
2 gold
1 ruby
1 gold
4 purple
23k (with all items sold to merchant, nothing was worth keeping)
.. was a bit worried when the purples started appearing so early in the run (3rd & 4th), but again, it all worked out the same.

With no "decay" in the value of the drios over the first 3 runs, can now presume (?) that you can take all your characters thru the treasure/chest run in one hit, one after the other. Then go play pvp/farm/vanquish/whatever, just forget about the treasure/chests in NF, then come back again 3months/100days and rinse repeat...

Further update:
Same again, as per assassin & par above, this time with the der:
5 gold
1 ruby
1 gold
1 purple
1 gold
3 purple
23k cash (with all items sold to merchant, nothing was worth keeping).
Thats the fourth char now taken thru, still with no decay thankfully.

It was at least the 3rd month after wintersday last that we started figuring out the pattern. It was Aug that most of my chests turned purple and I got 1/2 gold from them... I seem to get 4 or 5 golds out of the 15 per character now. rest is purple. sometimes decent and goes on a hero, sometimes merchant fodder. But the gold is handy... it was like 25k I think originally per character. now its about 12k per character for the 15 treasures. With 8 characters doing the run now. the other 4 do not have full access yet in NF to all of them. That's around 96K on the account and maybe 12 usable gold weapons total for the month... If I stagger the runs every week or so as described above. Thats just using the merchant, as I do not use the player market. I'm sure some of that could be very wisely priced under inflation values and still make a hefty profit for some. Maybe 10k or 15k for 1 or 2 rares from those... that kind of thing.
Ah thanx but is it just that one chest that i keep opening, i assumed the chests were all linked in time setting...I didn't completely understand the process since guildwiki.org gave me terrible information on the reset. So i assumed that i could just test the timing on one (not realizing that if you screw it up the timer resets)

But if the chests aren't linked then i can till go for the other chests! Yay! I just kept testing the jahai bluffs chests from the command post.

K0957 seems to be getting drops by waiting 100 days. So maybe the locked chests "reset" after 32 days so you can get drops from them again, but you get better drops by waiting 100+ days.

Of course, in that 100 days, you could have done the locked chest run an additional two times with poor drops.

So 1x every 100 days = about 5 golds and 24k in gold per character.
3x every 100 days = about 3 golds (1 per run) and and 30k (10k per run) in gold per character.

Bottom line: To get more gold weapons, wait 100 days. To get more gold, only wait 32 days.

I'm not sure you'd make 10k per run per 32 days after the first few times you open the chests. I did a run with my warrior, about 2-3 months since he opened, no golds and only 1-1.5k for torment chests. The desolation ones were like 700g, vabbi like 500g and kourna and istan 200-400g. I'd have probably made more money fighting my way there then from the chests. Haven't bothered checking with my other characters (about 2-3 months since they opened) so I may have just been unlucky.

Sorry can I be very specific here....

Opening ONE chest resets the timer for all chests? And this is certain...

But does one chest-open-attempt reset the 32 day timer for ALL characters, or just the character that opened it?

Sorry to be specific, this is a really important distinction.

I have stopped farming these chests after the output became rubbish, but I still try them out if I am casually PvEing in the same area. Now I suspect that my odd 'sample' taken every couple of weeks is just prolonging my misery.

"But does one chest-open-attempt reset the 32 day timer for ALL characters, or just the character that opened it?"

Just the opening character. I may have to try the 100 day thing though. I have one character who is now on their 6th run through the chests, and hasn't received a gold on any of the last two runs. My Torment chests also only dropped about 350g each. It's no longer worth the time for that character.

I have other characters that are only on their 2nd or 3rd time through, and still get mostly golds though.

Actually, my main character went up to Domain of Torment last night and got grapes and reduced cash. She hasn't been playing in that area at all or looking for treasures for months. My least played character went into Istan and got golds and full cash.

But actually, the grapes were way better and worth more than the golds. And by better I mean having perfect mods on them, no stupid 9% chance. I got a bunch of new heroes to equip (or will have when some of my other characters get more into GW:EN), so those mods will be useful. The golds were pretty much worthless, selling price around 192 or so. I couldn't be bothered to hang around Kamadan or anywhere else trying to sell stuff, the trade market is so overcrowded, so the merchant gets pretty much everything that the traders don't take.

I did another treasure chest run today. My last one was six weeks ago. I only have one character that can get all twelve chests. I think this is the fourth or fifth time I have taken him all the way through. It took me about two hours, and I ended up getting 5307g and 12 grapes. No chest gave me more than 800g. The grapes had nothing worth salvaging, and I ended up identifying and merching them all for an additional 2200g.

So I was a little frustrated at the small amounts of gold from the chests and not a single gold item/weapon dropped. But still, I came away with 7.5k, which isn't too bad for two hours of play. Also, as I fought to various chests, I ended up with four gold drops, which surprised me since I was in normal mode. Also, that 7.5k doesn't count what I got from the regular gold and item drops I got from killing foes. All together, I probably cleared about 8 plat.

But are you ready for this? After I took this character through, I took the rest of my toons through as far as they could. For three of them, this meant only the two chests on Istan. For the other two, I was able to get through to the chest which is south of Kodash Bazaar, which means they can get the first seven Treasure chests.

Altogether, these runs took me another 90 minutes to open the twenty chests (2 chests for three players equals six chests; 7 chests for two players equals 14 chests). From these 20, I got 13 gold weps/items, and one diamond. I was much happier with the amount of gold I received from each chest also. Between these five toons opening 20 chests, after I identified, salvaged what I could, and merched everything, I ended up with over 23 plat!

So, the bottom line is that in just under four hours, I opened 32 chests, and after merching everything, ended up with about 31 platinum. Not bad at all.

My monk JUST finished nf and went to finish some missions she had not gotten to: Dasha, so after the mission I went to check the chest, GRAPE! and less than 1plat! Then went on capping skill spree and into the domain of pain.....and yes ANOTHER GRAPE for the FIRST time she had opened that chest (and only 1plat 323 gold to go with it---got a screene too). The last time she had opened any chest was back in August (longer than the 30daywait period).

now just to see if it was her I took my paragon and opened a chest (lyss--she had just gotten to kodash) and she got a gold on that, my ranger who just finished mordak went into the caverns also got a nice gold and decent plat, but my poor (and getting poorer) monk has only gotten [email protected] this time--which was her first time for those 2 chests!!!

so gold items are NOT guaranteed on the first time opening a chest!

Nope, drops are bad even after 100+ days, I did not know the chest were refilled and have only went on a second trip with one of my characters couple of weeks ago, after getting purple, i didn't even bother to go with my other characters, why even bother refilling the chest/burried treasures if its going to be purples?

I think this got nerfed because of GWEN and BMP : the fact that you can get golds to get perfect or near perfect addons spurred this.

"... Every new campaign or game. Within MOMENTS of going into a live server for the first time on the first day I normally get really really good stuff. Black and white dyes, Gold drops and armors, Gems, Greens, and so on. This was true in NF as well BTW... Then as more people get in there and are playing as well, the quality balances out as more people farm the areas..."

100% ok with you. Thats why I always buy the new stand alone asa it is released. For GWEN, the two first days I got many req9 golds....& my first perfect elemental sword (in Asura land).

Now if I go back anywhere in GWEN I will get grapes & whites.....

Same for UW the more I solo it the less ecto I get. I stop 2 weeks then I get 3 in one run, if I retry it I often get zero or only one.

In order to be efficient....the best would be to fill up an Excell file & manage the various schedules of your characters. Good exercice for students

I dont need to do that...my six mules are stuffed with req9 items & my bank account shows 630K.

For info: I never made any biz, the only items I bought being CCs. Now GWEN enables you tu buy them directly.
